      For years, proponents have maintained that first aid should be mandatory in the school curriculum. In Washington, D.C., public health supporters recently lobbied policymakers to make first-aid training compulsory in schools. The American Academy of Pediatrics, which has worked hard to influence city regulations, has also expressed its support. When many children are uninformed of responding to situations, increased first-aid training and awareness are critical.
